Different forms of alcohol consumption have been and will always be components of community living for thousands of years now. This has been mentioned both in the Old and the New Testaments of the Bible and was also mentioned in a lot of Greek literature. Alcohol drinking is usually related to attendance of weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and other forms of festivities. The term social drinking is used to refer to the consumption of alcohol with no transparent signs of addiction or abuse. More often than not, this is seen in social settings with no obvious intention of getting drunk.

One feature that is a characteristic of social drinking is the fact that it can be considered appropriate. However, alcohol addiction has plenty of characteristics but any individual will not necessarily exhibit all of these in order to have a problem with alcohol. While alcohol addiction is a disease, it however can be treated at once.  Take into consideration that when a person displays any of the characteristics which will be mentioned, this could be an indication that the person is experiencing alcohol abuse and he certainly needs help.

Once the problem of alcohol addiction is recognized, it may seem realistic to advise the person to just stop his drinking habits.     Drinking alcohol is a culture which is commonly associated with the western society. In this society it’s considered perfectly normal for an individual to consume wine with a meal, drink socially at gatherings/ events, and crack open champagne for celebrations.
